DESTINATION
IN ASIA
» London «
England
was generally thought of as a gentle land and home of the
post office, country pub of the 1930s. It's now better known
for vibrant cities with great nightlife and attractions,
contrasted with green and pleasant countryside.
London is one of the favourite urban haunts of visitors to
Europe because of landmark sights like Big Ben, St Paul's
Cathedral and the historically rich Westminster Abbey. The
city also boasts some of the world's greatest museums and
art galleries, and more parkland than most other capitals.
From pubs and clubs, to theatres, cinema and comedy London
is alive with events and productions in every possible type
of venue, and there are many special events and festivals on
throughout the year.
With over 40,000 shops and 83 major street markets to choose
from, the sheer variety on offer is hard to imagine. The
city that gave the world the mini skirt, punk and Alexander
McQueen continues to bubbles over with excellent fashions,
from in-the-know East End boutiques to the world-famous
Selfridges. Different areas have their own specialties.
Jewellery lovers will find nirvana in Clerkenwell, and
record collectors will discover second-hand haven in Hanway
Street and Notting Hill. So get the credit card out and
start spending.
