Chiang Mai, Thailand's second largest city has a striking mountain backdrop, over 300 temples and a quaint historical aura. It is also a modern, friendly, internationally-flavored city with much to offer the visitors. Food, accommodation and shopping are all top quality and cheap, and the nights are relatively cool. The old Chiang Mai is a neat square bounded by moats and partial walls while the modern Chiang Mai is easily managed and very traveler-friendly. Chiang Mai is a good base for mountain treks. This part of Thailand is considerably overtrekked and some hill-tribe villages have been turned into little more than human zoos.

Visa	: Myanmar Passport Holders require visa at the Embassy of the Thailand. Holders of other countries (check www.mga.go.th for complete list) may apply for tourist visas at the immigration checkpoints for a period not exceeding 15 days. Applicants must fill in an application form and attach a recent 2x2 inch photograph. The application fee is 1,000 baht.

When to go	: The best time to visit Chiang Mai is between October and April.
Currency	: Thai Baht (THB)
Airport tax	: THB 500 (International) and THB 40 (domestic) are levied at the airport.
Languages	: Cantonese and Mandarin are the main languages. English is also widely spoken. There will be no problems in communicating with people in most hotels, restaurants and even some taxis.

Must visit	: Night Bazaar, Tribal Musuem, Wat Chiang Man, Wiang Kum Kam, Baw Sang, Doi Suthep, Mae Sa and Samoeng
